Wartime Crisis

In October 1940, the original Victorian college building, along with much of the college archive, was destroyed by a direct hit from a 100kg German bomb. 195 people from the surrounding area were sheltering in the Morley, of whom 54 people were killed and 57 injured. The task of digging the last of the dead out of the ruins of the building took three weeks. King George visited to support the college after the bombing.
